The North Node (and South Node) of the Moon, collectively known as the “Nodal Axis,” are pivotal elements in astrology. Particularly within the context of the natal chart. They represent two opposing points of the Moon. Symbolizing life lessons and potentials to be developed (North Node), and behavioral patterns and skills that we already possess (South). While the focus is often on the North Node, it’s important to integrate both ends of the Nodal Axis.
The Nodes of the Moon are not planetary bodies. They are points formed by the Moon’s orbit around the Earth intersecting with the Earth’s path around the Sun. The North Node is the ascending node (the point closest to our North Pole), and the South Node is the descending node (the point closest to our South Pole). They are always exactly 180 degrees apart.
When something unfortunate happens, people tend to respond with: “To me? It’s happening to me?” They don’t believe they are deserving of bad luck. One of the lessons they’re learning is that “life” happens to everyone.

The North Node: Your cosmic compass to fulfillment and purpose
The North Node, also known as the Dragon’s Head, represents the area of personal growth and evolution. It signifies the path we need to follow to realize our full potential and fulfill our life purpose. It urges us to step out of our comfort zone and adopt new skills, attitudes, and experiences that lead us toward personal growth and progress.
It represents our karmic path in this lifetime, guiding us toward our ultimate destiny and purpose.
In following the path of the Nodes of the Moon, and thus rebalancing our emotional bodies, we are going a long way toward easing internal stress and reclaiming confidence in our beings. More: How to achieve your life purpose?
The South Node
The South Node, or Dragon’s Tail, represents the area where we are already experienced and comfortable, but it can also signify behavioral patterns that hinder our personal development. It is where our old habits and patterns reside, which we may have brought from past lives or earlier experiences in this life. While these skills and experiences are important, too much attachment to them can prevent us from evolving and growing.
When we are acting without awareness, we tend to “act out” the South Node position in response to our environment because we have been accustomed to that approach working to our advantage. However, in this lifetime, our experiences show us that approaching a situation from the stance shown by the position of the Southern Node in our chart is no longer working.
How to discover your path with North Node?
Together, the South and North Node guide our life path and development. The North Node reminds us of our goals and purpose, while the South Node alerts us to behavioral patterns that we need to reassess and overcome to progress. Understanding and integrating these nodes helps us better understand ourselves and our life path, enabling us to align our actions with our true needs and desires.
Discovering your true path with the North Node involves several steps:
- Identify Your North Node Sign and House: Look at your natal chart to find the sign and house placement of your North Node. This indicates the qualities you need to develop and the areas of life where you’ll find growth and fulfillment.
- Reflect on Past Patterns: Reflect on past behaviors and patterns associated with your South Node. Understand how these patterns may have held you back or kept you stuck in certain areas of your life.
- Embrace Growth Opportunities: Embrace opportunities that align with the qualities of your North Node sign and house. These may initially feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar, but they offer the greatest potential for growth and fulfillment.
- Set Intentions: Set intentions to align your actions and decisions with your North Node path. This may involve stepping outside your comfort zone, trying new experiences, and cultivating qualities associated with your North sign.
- Practice Self-Reflection: Regularly reflect on your progress and growth. Notice any challenges or resistance that arise and use them as opportunities for further self-discovery and development.
- Trust Your Intuition: Trust your intuition to guide you along your true path. Listen to your inner wisdom and allow it to lead you toward greater authenticity, purpose, and fulfillment.
